Covers BO7 Ranked from Season 02 through Season 06, its last season.
BO7 Ranked Play has ended. Season 06 was the last season.
Quick answer: SR (Skill Rating) sets your BO7 Ranked rank. There are seven ranks, from Bronze to Iridescent. Every rank below Iridescent (10,000+ SR) has three tiers. Top 250 is a leaderboard, not an SR threshold. Since Season 04, a win pays +20 SR. Your scoreboard finish, your opponents' ranks and the team matchup move that up or down. A loss costs a base amount that grows with rank. In Season 06, finishing 5th-8th in a loss costs another 10 to 40.
What are the BO7 ranks and SR thresholds?
BO7 Ranked has seven ranks. Treyarch's patch notes also call them Skill Divisions. Here's where every tier starts, as published at the Season 02 launch.
| Rank | Tier I (SR) | Tier II (SR) | Tier III (SR) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze | 0 | 300 | 600 |
| Silver | 900 | 1,300 | 1,700 |
| Gold | 2,100 | 2,600 | 3,100 |
| Platinum | 3,600 | 4,200 | 4,800 |
| Diamond | 5,400 | 6,100 | 6,800 |
| Crimson | 7,500 | 8,300 | 9,100 |
| Iridescent | 10,000+ (no tiers) | ||
| Top 250 | Leaderboard, not a threshold |
For example, at 4,200 SR you're Platinum II, and you move up to Platinum III at 4,800.
How tier gaps are counted
Treyarch counts the gap between players in tiers, not whole ranks. Platinum III to Diamond III is 3 tiers. Platinum III to Diamond I is only 1. This count decides the Opponent Rank Adjustment. Since Season 05, it only kicks in when an opponent is 3 or more tiers above or below you.
How does SR work in BO7?
Season 04 (June 4, 2026) replaced hidden MMR with a transparent system. The post-match summary now breaks down every point. Your SR depends only on your visible rank and how you do against the rest of the lobby. That's measured against their ranks and how they play. Treyarch's promise was no more hidden MMR and nothing outside your control.
What you earn for a win (Season 04 onward)
| Component | How it works |
|---|---|
| Base Win | A flat +20 SR, at every rank |
| Scoreboard Bonus | Finish in the top 4. The higher you finish, the bigger the bonus |
| Opponent Rank Adjustment | As it launched in Season 04: extra SR for doing better than higher-ranked opponents. Less SR when lower-ranked opponents do better than you, and also when you do better than them, since you were expected to |
| Underdog Team Bonus / Favored Team Penalty | A bonus for beating a much higher-ranked team. A penalty if the team you beat was lower-ranked |
So a win starts at +20, and the rest moves it up or down. Treyarch never published how much SR each scoreboard spot is worth. Later seasons changed the Opponent Rank part:
- Season 05 (July 23, 2026): the adjustment only applies when the opponent is 3 or more tiers above or below you. A Platinum III who does better than a Diamond III gets the bonus. Doing better than a Diamond I no longer does.
- Season 06 (September 17, 2026): the notes give fixed amounts. Outscore a player 3+ tiers higher and you get +20 SR (+40 at 6+ tiers). Outscore one 3+ tiers lower and you lose 20 SR (40 at 6+ tiers). They're listed under the new loss penalty, and Treyarch didn't say whether they also apply after wins.
What you lose for a loss
The base SR you lose for each loss:
| Rank or SR | Season 04 | Season 05 onward |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze, Silver, Gold | -20 | -20 |
| Platinum | -20 | -25 |
| Diamond | -20 | -30 |
| Crimson | -30 | -40 |
| 10,000+ SR | -40 | not restated |
| 12,500+ SR | -50 | not restated |
| 15,000+ SR | -55 | not restated |
| 17,500+ SR | -60 | not restated |
| 20,000+ SR | -65 | not restated |
Losses get bigger at the top, so you have to keep beating what's expected of your rank to keep climbing. Season 05 raised the Platinum, Diamond and Crimson losses to counter SR inflation in the higher ranks during Season 04. It didn't restate the 10,000+ ladder. The team factor works on losses too. Losing to a much higher-ranked team shrinks the loss, and losing to a lower-ranked team makes it bigger.
Season 06 added a scoreboard penalty for losses. Lose and finish 5th-8th, and you lose another 10 to 40 SR. Treyarch didn't publish the amount for each spot, and said it will sometimes make losses hurt more.
Example: a Diamond player loses a Season 06 match and finishes 6th. That's the -30 Diamond base plus another 10 to 40 SR for the scoreboard, and Treyarch hasn't said exactly how much. So the loss is 40 to 70 SR before any team or opponent rank adjustment, and before Loss Forgiveness (below).
How SR worked before Season 04 (hidden MMR)
In Seasons 02-03, SR depended on how you played compared with the skill of the other players, and on your team's margin of victory. Losses used the same factors. The higher you climbed, the more the system expected you to win. That meant slightly smaller SR gains and bigger SR losses, especially at the top ranks and in Top 250. Activision's support page still describes this old system, so don't go by it for how SR works now.
How do you gain more SR in BO7?
Winning comes first. Since Season 05, a win is +20 and a loss costs a base of -20 to -40 from Bronze to Crimson. So winning instead of losing the same match is worth 40 SR in Gold and 60 in Crimson, before any adjustment. After the result, the part you control is where you finish on the scoreboard:
- Finish top 4 when you win. That earns the Scoreboard Bonus, and a higher finish pays more.
- Finish top 4 when you lose, too. Since Season 06, finishing 5th-8th in a loss costs another 10 to 40 SR.
When transparent SR launched in Season 04, Treyarch told players to prove they belong higher by outperforming opponents at or above their rank. Since Season 05, that's only half true. Players in your own rank are at most 2 tiers away, so outscoring them doesn't earn a rank bonus anymore. Only outscoring players 3+ tiers above you does. Outscoring lower-ranked players never earned a rank bonus. In Season 04 it cut your SR, and since Season 05 it only does when they're 3+ tiers below you. Topping the board still earns the Scoreboard Bonus either way.
How RankKD helps: RankKD shows your scoreboard finish in every match next to the SR it earned or cost. You can see how often you finish top 4 in wins and in losses.

Is there derank protection in BO7 Ranked?
Not as a floor. Nothing official describes a rule that stops you dropping a tier or a rank. Outside the cases below, a loss costs SR. What BO7 has is Loss Forgiveness: certain losses that cost no SR. The closest thing to demotion protection is Rank Up Protection, which covers your first 3 losses after a promotion.
These losses cost no SR, as of the Season 02 launch:
- Daily Loss Protection: your first loss each day.
- New Season Protection: your first 3 losses of a season, after placements.
- Rank Up Protection: your first 3 losses after you rank up into a new rank.
- Matchmade teammate quit: any loss where a matchmade teammate quit mid-match. It doesn't count if someone in your own party quits.
If a matchmade teammate quit and then came back, the loss is reduced instead. The Season 04-06 SR changes didn't remove or restate these rules, and Activision Support still listed them on September 17, 2026.
Does forfeiting cost extra SR?
No. A forfeit needs every teammate to vote yes. It counts as a normal loss, with no extra SR penalty and no suspension, unlike quitting. You can forfeit in Hardpoint once the winning team hits 100 points, in Overload after the first round, and in SnD after the third round. Since March 10, 2026 you can vote while dead.
Penalties for disconnects, friendly fire and inactivity
Disconnecting, friendly fire and going inactive all bring SR penalties and suspensions. Friendly fire is on in Ranked. Activision hasn't said how big the penalties are or how long suspensions last. On March 10, 2026, Treyarch also closed a console trick where players minimized the game at match end to dodge an SR loss.
How does Top 250 work in BO7?
Top 250 isn't an SR number. Players at 10,000+ SR are ranked #1-250 by current SR on a live leaderboard. Active CDL pros and CDL broadcast talent are flagged on it with info cards.
- Matchmaking: since March 10, 2026, Iridescent and Top 250 players get matched with each other as often as possible. Treyarch warned that means longer searches.
- Parties: Iridescent and Top 250 are duos only.
- Rewards: finish a season in the Top 250 and you get the Top 250 Competitor skins. Only the season's #1 gets the Top 250 Champion skins.
How do you unlock Ranked and get placed?
The 50-win unlock
Ranked wasn't in BO7 at launch. It went live with Season 02 on February 5, 2026. To unlock it, get 50 wins in matchmade Multiplayer. Wins from before Season 02 count. Wins in Party Games and Limited Time Modes don't.
PC requirements: TPM 2.0, Secure Boot and attestation
On PC, Ranked needs TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot turned on. It also needs the stronger cloud attestation, built with Microsoft, that RICOCHET added for Ranked in Season 02. Since Season 04, a PC that fails Microsoft Azure Attestation gets "Failed Attestation Status." It can then only play Nuketown 24/7 in BO7, so no Ranked. Party up with a PC that fails and the rest of the party gets flagged too.
Placement matches
Everyone starts Unranked and has to win 3 placement matches. That's wins, not games played. After each placement win, your Minimum Starting Rank updates to show where you're projected to land. Treyarch says this gets players into higher ranks much faster than in Black Ops 6.
What happens to your rank when a new season starts?
Bronze, Silver and Gold players keep their rank and SR. Platinum and above have to win 1 placement match to get placed again. Treyarch hasn't said which rank a Platinum+ player lands in after that win.
BO7 Ranked rules: modes, maps, loadouts and parties
BO7 Ranked launched on CDL settings, maps, modes and weapon restrictions, with every loadout item unlocked for everyone. Since Season 05, its map pool goes beyond the CDL's (below).
Modes and map pool
Ranked launched in Season 02 with the three CDL modes: Hardpoint, Search & Destroy and Overload. Overload replaced BO6's Control. Since Season 05, the Ranked pool isn't just the CDL pool anymore:
| Mode | CDL pool (CDL page, V 1.1) | Added to Ranked in Season 05 |
|---|---|---|
| Hardpoint | Colossus, Den, Gridlock, Hacienda, Sake, Scar | Frequency, Vertigo, Blackheart, Exposure |
| Search & Destroy | Den, Fringe, Gridlock, Hacienda, Raid, Sake | Frequency, Vertigo, Colossus, Exposure, Scar |
| Overload | Den, Exposure, Gridlock, Scar | Frequency, Vertigo |
Frequency and Vertigo were never played in a CDL match. The other additions are maps the CDL dropped from those modes.
How does the map veto work?
The lobby shows 3 map and mode options, and each team vetoes one. You play the one that's left. If both teams veto the same option, the game picks one of the other two at random.
CDL mode settings
Ranked is meant to match the CDL mode settings:
- Hardpoint: first to 250, with 1-minute hills on a fixed rotation.
- SnD: first to 6, with 1:30 rounds and a 45-second bomb timer.
- Overload: first to 8, and the enemy carrier's icon refreshes every 2 seconds.
Killcam is off and friendly fire is on in all three.
Loadout rules
- Only Assault Rifles, SMGs, Pistols and Melee are allowed, plus snipers in SnD only.
- Perk Greed is the only Wildcard allowed. Core and Hybrid Perk Specialties don't activate, and Overclocks are off.
- A restricted attachment can stay on a saved build, but it gets flagged and removed in-game.
- Anything CDL pros avoid by Gentleman's Agreement (GA) is restricted too, even if the CDL list allows it.
The CDL restricted list (V 1.1, as of October 10, 2026) covers all LMGs, Marksman Rifles, Shotguns and Launchers, plus the Shadow SK and XR-3 Ion snipers. It also covers all lasers and specific attachments, equipment and Field Upgrades. It restricts a set of perks and 20 scorestreaks too, and Ranked adds the RC-XD.
Ranked has also changed its own restrictions over time, mostly to match pro GAs. On February 13, 2026, all Assault Rifle muzzles, Rapid Fire fire mods and the Flashbang were restricted. Sniper aim assist was turned off to match the CDL, and existing Ranked loadouts were reset. Later patches unrestricted items including the MPC-25 (April 21) and the VMP with select attachments (September 24 and 30).
Party rules
Party rules at the Season 02 launch, and the changes from Season 04 (June 4, 2026):
| Rank | Season 02 launch | Season 04 onward |
|---|---|---|
| Bronze to Platinum | No party restriction | No change announced |
| Diamond | Party only with players within 2 ranks | No change announced |
| Crimson | Solo, or a duo with a teammate within 1 rank | Parties of up to 4 |
| Iridescent and Top 250 | Solo, or a duo with a teammate within 1 rank | Duos only |
At launch, a 4-player party needed everyone at Diamond or below, and it was matchmade at its highest player's rank. Treyarch hasn't said whether Iridescent and Top 250 duos still need to be within 1 rank. Since March 10, 2026, Diamond and below can also opt in to Stay With Team and queue again with matchmade teammates who opt in too.
When does BO7 Ranked end?
Season 06 launched September 17, 2026, and it was the last BO7 Ranked season. BO7 Ranked Play has ended. Treyarch called Season 06 a 3-week sprint. Warzone's Season 06 notes add that Multiplayer Ranked ran three weeks of normal Ranked play, then one week of Ranked Series. Treyarch's notes signed off by saying they'd see players again in MW4. That confirms MW4 will have Ranked Play, but none of its rules are out yet.
The Ranked Series is BO7's end-of-season event. Treyarch detailed it for Seasons 02, 03 and 04, and Warzone's Season 06 notes put one in Season 06's final week. The Season 05 launch blog said one was coming, but we couldn't find a Season 05 Multiplayer Ranked Series announcement. In Season 02, SR froze before the final week. Players who finished Gold or higher went onto 50-player ladders with others who finished in the same rank, and all Top 250 players shared one ladder. A win was worth +31 Ladder Points, and a loss -21.

BO7 SR FAQ
How much SR do you get for a win in BO7?
Since Season 04, every win starts at a flat +20, at every rank. A top 4 finish adds a Scoreboard Bonus. The Opponent Rank Adjustment can add or take away SR, and since Season 05 it only counts for players 3+ tiers away. The team part adds an Underdog Team Bonus for beating a much higher-ranked team, or takes a Favored Team Penalty for beating a lower-ranked one. Treyarch hasn't published what each scoreboard spot is worth.
How much SR do you lose for a loss in BO7?
Since Season 05, the base loss is -20 in Bronze, Silver and Gold, -25 in Platinum, -30 in Diamond and -40 in Crimson. At 10,000+ SR, Season 04 set -40, rising to -65 at 20,000+. Season 05 didn't restate those. In Season 06, finishing 5th-8th in a loss costs another 10 to 40 SR.
How much SR do you need for Iridescent and Top 250?
Iridescent starts at 10,000 SR. Top 250 has no fixed number. It's the top 250 players at 10,000+ SR, ranked by current SR.
Do win streaks give bonus SR in BO7?
Not in any official SR breakdown. Three wins in a row give you Hot Streak Flames on your rank icon, but they're cosmetic.
Does SR reset every season?
Not for everyone. Bronze, Silver and Gold players keep their rank and SR. Platinum and above have to win 1 placement match to get placed again.
