Hardstuck means your SR in BO7 Ranked Play stops moving. Not your level, not your Prestige. You win some, lose some, and sit in the same Rank session after session. Treyarch's rule for the current SR system is simple. Beat players at your Rank or above and you keep climbing. Struggle against players at or below your Rank and the big SR gains dry up. From Platinum up, winning half your games without Scoreboard Bonuses or positive adjustments slowly loses SR.
The 8 fixes, in order:
- Play for the win, and finish top 4
- Fight close enough to be traded
- Live on the minimap, the killfeed and the spawns
- Stop losing fights before the first shot
- Fix the mode you lose
- Make comms specific, and build a stack
- Veto your weakest map and mode
- Don't fight your team, and forfeit instead of quitting
BO7 Ranked Play has ended. Season 06 was the last season: three weeks of normal Ranked from September 17, then one week of Ranked Series. MW4 will have Ranked Play, but none of its rules are out yet. Don't assume the BO7 SR math below carries over. The fight, team and review fixes work in any CoD, whatever the SR rules.
Why am I hardstuck in BO7 Ranked?
SR pays for placement, not just wins
Since Season 04, SR has no hidden MMR. It moves on your visible Rank and how you do against the other players in the match, and the post-match summary breaks down every point. A win pays a flat +20 SR base at every Rank. You only get a Scoreboard Bonus if you finish top 4 of the 8-player lobby, and it's bigger the higher you finish. Win but finish 5th-8th and you get no Scoreboard Bonus. In Season 06, losing while you finish 5th-8th costs an extra 10 to 40 SR. A top-4 finish avoids that penalty, even in a loss.
The Opponent Rank Adjustment only kicks in across big gaps. Since Season 05 it applies, up or down, only against players 3 or more Rank Tiers away. Outscoring lower Ranks never earns a bonus. Treyarch's advice is to beat the players at your Rank or above. Matchmaking sets the Ranks in your lobby. So beyond winning, the part of the payout you control is where you finish on the scoreboard. Team adjustments and the rest of the math are in BO7 Ranked SR explained.
Why does Platinum feel harder than Gold?
Losses cost more as you climb, but wins don't pay more. After Season 05, a loss costs -20 SR in Bronze through Gold, -25 in Platinum, -30 in Diamond and -40 in Crimson. On base values alone, the win rate you need to break even goes up from Platinum:
| Rank | Base win | Base loss | Win rate to break even |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bronze-Gold | +20 | -20 | 50% |
| Platinum | +20 | -25 | about 56% |
| Diamond | +20 | -30 | 60% |
| Crimson | +20 | -40 | about 67% |
We worked these out from the base values. Treyarch doesn't publish them, and they leave out Scoreboard Bonuses, rank and team adjustments, loss forgiveness and the Season 06 penalty.
Is old hardstuck advice still right?
Not the hidden-MMR kind. In BO6, SR depended on a hidden projected Rank and the margin of victory. Season 04 removed hidden MMR from BO7 SR, and margin of victory is no longer listed, so that advice doesn't carry over. Activision's support page still describes the old model. Win streaks don't pay extra either. Three wins in a row earns Hot Streak Flames that teammates and rivals can see, and they expire after a loss or 72 hours. No official SR breakdown lists a streak bonus.
What habits keep players stuck?
The same mistakes keep showing up in BO7 Ranked. Players take the objective without map control, leave lanes open, split up from teammates and rotate too late. A lot of fights are lost before the first shot. You got to the spot late, or rotated late. Stats don't guarantee wins either. A player can dominate an Overload lobby and still lose. You can go positive with plenty of hill time in Hardpoint and still make the game close with bad decisions.
How do I rank up in BO7 Ranked? 8 tips in order
1. Play for the win, and finish top 4
On base values, a win is +20 at every Rank. A loss costs 25 to 40 from Platinum through Crimson. So from Platinum up, you need to win more than half your games just to hold your SR. Kills alone don't win Ranked games, and SR also pays for your spot on the board, so you need both. The patch notes don't say how SnD scoreboard score works, so don't count on a plant or defuse being worth a set amount. Make your kills count. In Overload, kills away from the device or the Overload zone rarely help.
2. Fight close enough to be traded
"Get the trade" means a teammate's follow-up kill on the player who just got one. Push with a teammate instead of sliding out alone. Hit a defender from two sides where you can, and shoot the same enemy your teammate is fighting. Two players on an enemy's screen are better than one.
3. Live on the minimap, the killfeed and the spawns
Under the CDL settings Ranked uses, there's no always-on radar, and UAV and Counter UAV are restricted. Enemies show on your minimap when they fire, not all the time. So read the killfeed and the spawns. Learning to read your minimap and killfeed moves you from reacting to predicting, and it's one of the fastest ways to climb. When the minimap shows a teammate making a play, go with them, even if they don't call it.
Learn spawns on purpose. Pull up a spawn guide for one map, load a custom game and walk a loop around each spawn. In matches, call out where the enemy will spawn next. You'll learn spawns faster, even when you get it wrong. When a spawn catches you out, work out what your team's positions did to cause it.
4. Stop losing fights before the first shot
Center before you see them. Keep your crosshair where an enemy is most likely to appear, like the headglitch, doorway or corner you're about to clear. Then you only need a small adjustment. Don't run with your aim on the floor. Looking up and then flicking sideways is two movements, and gunfights are won in milliseconds. Use spawns, the minimap, sound and your team's positions to pick the angle. Pre-aim it before you round the corner. On a corner someone can strafe out of, aim at chest height. On a headglitch, aim at the top of the cover.
Have your gun up. A common way to lose a Ranked fight is a split second of sprint-sliding instead of staying aimed in. Sprint-to-fire gets slower coming out of a tac sprint, a slide or a dive. Stop sprinting before you reach the angle, not on it.
Don't force a fight that went wrong. Lost the first exchange on a headglitch? Reposition when you can instead of re-challenging the same spot. If you do go back up, drop down and regen first. Don't take the next fight one-shot. Back off, regen, then re-peek or let a teammate take it. When you did the damage, push while they're weak.
Reload behind cover after you back out of a fight, not after a few shots with plenty of ammo left. If your primary runs dry mid-fight and you run a pistol, switch to it. In BO7 that's always faster than reloading. More in gunfight fundamentals.
5. Fix the mode you lose
BO7 Ranked plays Hardpoint, Search & Destroy (SnD) and Overload under Call of Duty League settings. Loadouts follow the CDL too. Only Assault Rifles, SMGs, pistols and melee are allowed, with snipers in SnD only, and Greed is the only Wildcard. The restricted list has changed mid-season, so check it in game.
Hardpoint: play the clock
Hills last 1 minute and rotate in a fixed order. The next hill shows up 10 seconds early, so you can learn the rotation. Don't waste lives on a hill the enemy is holding. Move on and set up for the next one. In a close game, one player can hang back for scrap time while the rest of the team rotates. Scrap time is the last few seconds of a dying hill, and only one player needs to be on it to score. On a break, hit the hill from every lane and keep throwing grenades and stuns. Trophy Systems can only stop so many. Win the first fight of a rotation and their players respawn one at a time. That makes your hold close to guaranteed. Two kills and staying alive beats three kills and dying right away. More in Hardpoint rotations.
Search & Destroy: play your life
Activision's own SnD guide calls "play your life" the top advice from pros year after year. Your main job is keeping your team from being outnumbered. Ego challenges, like taking a 1v2, often lose. The opening duel decides most rounds. In 2026 CDL Stage II, teams that won the opening duel went on to win 66.7% to 88.7% of those rounds. The best comeback team won only 39.5% of the rounds where it lost the opening duel. Clutches are rare, too. Across the BO7 CDL season, even the five players with the most clutches won about 24% of their 1v2s and about 4% of their 1v3s.
Rounds are 1:30, with a 5-second plant, a 7.5-second defuse and a 45-second bomb timer. A defender who hasn't started defusing with 7.5 seconds left can't finish from scratch. So on attack, make them move first, or pull them off the bomb as the timer runs down. Don't hold or attack an area the same way twice in a row. Throw your tactical and lethal every round. You get them back each round. More in SnD tips.
Overload: don't crowd the carrier
Don't stack on the carrier. Block for your carrier, and let other players go ahead. Have a plan for the middle, and call your role: your half, their half, or floating. Under CDL settings, the enemy carrier shows on your HUD every 2 seconds. Head to where the carrier is going and beat them to a choke point. More in the Overload guide.
6. Make comms specific, and build a stack
Call out during your gunfight, not after you're dead. If you're on the objective, tell your teammates when to push up and when you're getting time. In solo queue, use Stay With Team. Players in Diamond and below can opt in after a match and queue the next one with any teammate who also opts in. A 4-player party can mix any Ranks if everyone is Diamond or below, but it matchmakes on its highest Rank.
7. Veto your weakest map and mode
Before each match, each team vetoes one of three map and mode options. The one your team vetoes is never played. Use it to drop the map and mode you play worst.
8. Don't fight your team, and forfeit instead of quitting
Don't argue about pointless things in game, and don't let things get to you so easily. If you're going to leave, forfeit instead of quitting. Disconnecting brings SR penalties and suspensions. A forfeit needs every teammate's vote and counts as a standard loss, without the quit penalty. It's still a loss, so it doesn't save you SR.
A weekly routine for climbing
Before every session
- Set 1 to 3 specific goals and block off a set time, like 5 to 7pm on 2 goals. A good example: reading enemy spawns correctly.
- Warm up with a private-match free-for-all against 10 Regular bots. Get 100 to 150 kills with aim assist off, aiming at the chest. Then do it again with aim assist on, then add small strafes. When you can, warm up in 2v2s against real players instead. You'll warm up your comms too.
After every session
- Start with a map you lost or played close, not a blowout.
- Killcam is off in competitive settings. Your recording shows how you died from your side: the angle you were holding and what you were checking. For each kill and death, check how close your crosshair was to where the enemy showed up. Check whether map or sound info could have warned you.
- Write down how you died and whether you were in position to get traded. Patterns will show up.
- After SnD, go through every death on defense and ask whether you played too aggressive.
Across the week
- Walk the spawns of one map in a custom game.
- For Hardpoint, watch a pro POV on one map. Pick 1 or 2 power positions and hold them in your next games. Finished CDL matches on callofdutyleague.com have a free "Watch Match VOD" link. The Ranked pool also has maps the CDL never played, like Frequency and Vertigo.
- Drill one mechanic until it's muscle memory. One drill: play a deathmatch and use a single movement technique every chance you get.
RankKD records every match and files it in your library, so the match you want to review is always there. The full method is in how to VOD review CoD.
How RankKD finds the habit costing you SR
To get unstuck, first find the habit that's costing you SR. Review your decisions, not just your stat line. RankKD's breakdown covers decisions as well as numbers: deaths while sprinting or reloading, re-peeks without info, untraded deaths and rotation timing.
RankKD records every Ranked match on its own. It reads your Rank and SR before and after each one, so you can see which matches, modes and maps cost you SR. Your rank journey shows your SR match by match against the division lines, and how much you have to go.
After the match, RankKD reviews the footage. You get a match grade from S to D, scored against your own recent matches, and your top 3 fixes in order. Every gunfight is graded on fights won, first hit, time to kill and crosshair placement. Objective play is broken down hill by hill and round by round. Every stat is compared with your Rank and the Rank above, the players Treyarch says you need to beat. Every mistake in the coach's note links to the exact moment in the video, with your mouse, keyboard or controller inputs on screen.
| If you're losing SR to... | RankKD shows you |
|---|---|
| Bottom-half finishes | your scoreboard finish every match, SR gained and lost per mode, and how you stack up against your Rank and the Rank above |
| Fights lost before the first shot | first-shot advantage, centering, reaction time, and deaths while sprinting, reloading, swapping weapons or re-peeking without info |
| Taking fights hurt | fights you took while already hurt, deaths right after your own kill |
| Not getting traded | deaths that got traded, your trade rate against your Rank, outnumbered fights |
| The Hardpoint clock | rotation timing to the next hill, spawn-flip deaths |
| SnD | first deaths, deaths early in the round, utility used per life |
| Maps | how you do on each map, your worst map and why, death heatmaps grouped by callout (see Hacienda callouts) |
| Tilt | tilt detection across a session |
From those gaps, RankKD sets 1 to 3 session goals and tracks them across sessions. Use your worst map to pick your veto. See how Call of Duty coaching and VOD review work in RankKD.
Fair play: RankKD analyzes your match after it ends, never while you play. During a match it only records. No overlays, no assists, no live info, no in-game presence and no mods. See how RankKD stays fair-play.
RankKD runs on Windows PC and records up to 4K at 120 frames per second with your inputs. It supports Black Ops 7 and Modern Warfare 4 at launch, with MW4 Ranked Play supported from day one when it goes live. Free includes recording up to 1080p at 60 frames per second, your match library, your SR and rank journey, and one full breakdown. Pro ($9.99/mo) adds 100 full analyses a month and the full coaching.

FAQ
Does BO7 Ranked matchmaking use my Rank?
Yes. Since Season 05, Ranks and the sub-Tiers inside each Rank (like Platinum I, II and III) count for more when Ranked matches are made. Treyarch changed it after player feedback about how competitive Rank matchups were.
How much SR do I need to get out of Platinum?
Platinum I starts at 3,600 SR, Platinum II at 4,200, Platinum III at 4,800 and Diamond I at 5,400. From the bottom of Platinum I, that's 1,800 SR to Diamond.
Does every loss cost SR?
Not always. Season 02 added loss forgiveness. You lose no SR for your first loss each day. The same goes for your first three losses of the season after placements and your first three after a promotion. A loss where a matchmade teammate (not a party member) quit costs nothing either. The Season 04 to 06 notes don't restate or remove these rules.
Should I quit or forfeit a lost match?
If you're leaving, forfeit. It needs every teammate's vote. It unlocks in Hardpoint once the winning team reaches 100 points, in Overload after the first round and in SnD after the third. It counts as a standard loss, without the quit penalty or a suspension. It isn't a way to dodge SR. Treyarch fixed timed forfeit votes that let players avoid SR losses they should have taken.
Will BO7 SR rules carry over to MW4 Ranked?
Don't assume so. Treyarch says it's collecting Season 06 data as it looks ahead to MW4 Ranked, but no MW4 Ranked rules are out yet.
