Hardpoint is won on hill time, not kills. In BO7 Ranked, a kill is worth zero points. To rotate well, learn each map's hill order so you're not waiting on the 10-second reveal, and get to the next hill early. Start thinking about the next hill once the current one is running late. Use your late kills to push the enemy's spawns away from the hill that's about to go live.
The Ranked settings and map pool are up to date as of Season 06 (October 2026). They're all in the rules section. For Hacienda's hills and callouts, see the Hacienda callouts guide.
How do you rotate in Hardpoint?
Why rotations decide Hardpoint
Think of Hardpoint as a series of rotations. Win the rotation and you're holding the new hill. Lose it and you're breaking it. CDL stats from January 2025 (Black Ops 6) show why the rotation matters so much. Atlanta FaZe were mid-pack at both holding and breaking. But they won a league-best 61.9% of their rotations, and that gave them a league-leading 22.3 points per minute.
Learn the hill order and get there early
Hills rotate in a fixed order, numbered P1, P2 and so on, so a map's P3 is always the same spot. The next hill is revealed 10 seconds before it goes live. Don't wait for the reveal. Know where the next hill is and rotate early. Get there first and the hill is uncontested when you arrive, so you can set up before the enemy does.
In Ranked, P1 is live as soon as the match starts, with no activation delay. Have a plan to break P1 from both sides. Sometimes that's through the middle, sometimes it's a pinch. Know how you'll rotate to P2 from each spawn side too.
When should you leave the hill?
Getting there early has limits. Start thinking about the next hill with about 25 seconds left. Peel off to block the next spawn at around 20 seconds. Leaving with 30 or 40 seconds left is too early. Nobody flips the spawn that early, and your hill gets broken from the front. These are rough numbers. When the next hill is far away, go a little earlier.
Play the end of a hill for the next one
Late in a hill, start playing for the next one. Use your kills to push the enemy's spawns where you want them for the next hill, ideally to the back. Go forward off a late kill, not backwards. Backing up gives them spawns you don't want them in.
Cut down anyone pushing through late to flip the spawns. Skip long pinches late in a hill. By the time a long pinch lands, there are about 30 seconds left. The enemy is already spawning where they want to be for the next hill.
Should you take scrap time?
Scrap time is the last few seconds of a hill that's about to move, roughly the final 5 to 10 seconds. Take it in a close game, with one player. That player hangs back while the rest of the team rotates, and those seconds add up. The catch is that whoever stays isn't part of the rotation. Don't sit in the old hill with 3 seconds left when you should be heading for the new one.
When should you chalk a hill?
If the enemy has a hill locked down and you can't break it, chalk it. Don't throw lives and time at a hill they're defending. Set up for the next one instead. Your kills still matter while you wait. Every kill late in a hill staggers their push and makes them spawn further from the next hill.
Did you actually win the rotation?
Getting to the new hill first doesn't win a rotation. Killing the enemy players who are rotating does. If their rotators are still alive, you haven't won it.
Save your Trophy System for the next hill
The Trophy System is legal in BO7 Ranked. It isn't on the CDL's restricted field upgrade list. With under 30 seconds left on the current hill, hold your defensive field upgrade until the next hill appears. Better yet, plant it there before the rotation. Season 02 cut the Trophy's Ranked charge rate to match normal multiplayer, so a wasted Trophy takes longer to come back.
How RankKD helps: RankKD times your rotations. It shows when you left each hill and when you reached the next, against the hill clock and the reveal, plus your deaths on the way.
How do Hardpoint spawns work, and how do you flip them?
What moves the spawns
BO7 spawns react to where enemies are and what they can see. So where your team stands moves the enemy spawns. Treyarch's Season 01 update extended sight checks and retuned how strongly enemies push spawns away, on every map. The exact spawn weights aren't public, so play spawns with these rules of thumb.
The 50-yard line
Picture a line through the middle of the hill. If more of your team is pushed past it than pulled back, expect the enemy to spawn behind you. Getting too far past that line is one of the easiest ways to flip the spawns. Keep someone pulled back about as far as your furthest player is pushed up.
Block the spawns you don't want them in
Don't just sit on the hill. Put a player on the side of the map you don't want the enemy spawning near. That's anchoring. Push toward the focal point of their spawn too, so they come in from spawns that make your hill easier to hold. If blocking a spawn is your job, play the lane on that side for info and sit on the spawn.
Read where your teammates spawn
If a teammate spawns behind you, your setup and spawns are holding. If one spawns across the map, an enemy is probably sitting on your spawn. Someone has to turn around and find that player before you push forward.
Call the enemy spawn
If you only make one call, call where the enemy is spawning. If your comms are thin, start with just that call. Call your own spawn too, like "I spawn P2". Then a teammate can rotate into the hill and your AR can hop in.
Check the minimap on a rhythm
The minimap is the most important thing on your screen, especially in Ranked. Try this drill. Set a metronome to beep every 2 to 3 seconds. On every beep, look at the minimap. Say out loud where your teammates are, where the gaps are and where you think the enemy will spawn.
Learn each map's spawns in a private match
BO7 private matches have had the CDL Hardpoint settings since Season 02, so learn spawns there. Add one bot and note where it spawns after every kill on each hill. Then repeat with more players, up to 4v4. Also walk the edge of each spawn area to learn where players can appear. Learn that first, then start trapping and flipping spawns.
How RankKD helps: RankKD marks your deaths to spawn flips. It shows when the spawns turned and where you were, with the video that shows why.
Should you break or hold the hill?
Either way, a kill only matters if it gets you hill time or moves the spawns. A kill on a pinch that doesn't win the hill is wasted. Roaming for kills like it's Team Deathmatch loses the hill and hands the enemy good spawns. Good stats don't mean good decisions either. You can go positive with plenty of hill time and still be the reason a game is close. More on that in the hardstuck guide.
How to break a hill
Hit it together from more than one lane, not one at a time through one entrance. Come at the hill from multiple angles as a team. The point of a break is to force the enemy team to spawn out. Once everyone else on their team is down, your only job is the player on the hill. Worry about spawns after that.
Bring utility, especially to P1. Throw your stuns every time you spawn toward P1, and keep spamming tacticals to stagger their push. Nade the hill first, then work it. Throw your nades early in a hill, before the defenders have Trophy Systems down. Practice long-range sky nades onto the hill too.
Play off team wipes. Count kills and deaths out loud so you know when three or four of the enemy are down at once. When your team wipes theirs, push up, take map control and set up before they're back. Ranked has no wave spawns and a 3-second respawn, so that window is short. When your own team gets wiped, stop taking solo fights and wait for your teammates.
Know when a death is free. If you'll respawn right behind your team, dying costs you very little. Take the aggressive fight. Die fast enough and you'll spawn in the back anyway. You can also use the quick respawn to come straight back and spam tacticals at the hill.
How to hold a hill
Don't stack the hill. One player is enough to score. Put everyone else on the entry points. A packed hill just invites a multikill. The exception is a hill with several pieces of hard cover, where packing it can work.
Push out and funnel them. Lock lanes so the enemy can only come at you one way. Good Hardpoint teams funnel the enemy through one direction, so the hold stops being a guessing game. Be a wall that keeps them out of every gap.
Don't over-challenge. After you win a fight, back off, regen, then re-peek. If you're the last one alive or alone at the hill, play for your life and buy time until your teammates get there. For the fights themselves, see gunfight fundamentals.
How RankKD helps: RankKD splits your solo breaks from your team breaks. It also shows your trade rate and outnumbered fights compared with players at your rank.
What are the roles in Hardpoint?
Hardpoint roles are about jobs, not just guns, and your gun pushes you toward a job. With four players, the jobs split like this:
- Hill: one player in the hill. One is enough to score.
- AR: holds a power position overlooking the hill. It's one of the most important spots in any setup. You don't have to run at the hill every life.
- SMG: pushes out to lock down lanes.
- Anchor: the last player. Watches the back and cuts off late pushes that try to flip the spawns.
Jobs shift with the spawns, and someone has to fill whatever's missing. That's the flex, and sometimes it means taking your turn on hill time. If you end up as the last player back, your job is to back up and block.
To learn your job, watch a pro's POV on one map. Pick 1 or 2 power positions they use. Hold them in your next games whenever it makes sense, learn the rotations in and out of them, and add more over time. To review your own footage, see the guide to VOD review.
BO7 Ranked Hardpoint rules and settings
BO7 Ranked Play runs on the CDL ruleset. Ranked Hardpoint uses the CDL's competitive settings, currently V1.1. These are the settings that shape rotations:
| Setting | Ranked Hardpoint |
|---|---|
| Win condition | First to 250 points, 5-minute time limit |
| First hill (P1) | Live right away, no activation delay |
| Each hill | Lasts 1 minute, instant capture |
| Hill order | Fixed. The next hill is revealed 10 seconds before it goes live |
| Match clock | "Pause Time on Zone Captured" is on, so the clock pauses while the hill is held |
| Scoring | Kills, deaths, headshots and scorestreak kills all score 0 |
| Respawn | 3 seconds, force respawn on, no wave spawns |
| Info | No killcam, no enemy on compass, no always-on radar. The CDL also turns callout pings off. No patch note says Ranked copied that, so check your lobby |
| Weapons | ARs, SMGs, pistols and melee only, and single weapons can be restricted. Snipers are restricted here and in Overload, and allowed only in SnD |
| Doors | Open by default since February 20, 2026 |
Only hill time scores. One player in the hill is enough. If both teams are in it, the hill is contested and nobody scores until one side clears it.
What you can see. The minimap stays on, and enemy gunfire shows up as weapon pings on the minimap and compass. Scorestreaks are on, but the CDL restricts 20 of them, including the UAV, Scout Pulse and Counter UAV. With no radar streaks, the minimap and those weapon pings are all you have on screen to read the enemy.
Doors and map elements. The CDL settings also turn off Automatic Doors and Dynamic Map Elements. Learn each hill's lanes and sightlines with the doors open.

How RankKD shows your hill play
RankKD records every match automatically. There's nothing to press, and it captures your rank and SR before and after. After the match, RankKD reviews the footage and breaks down your objective play hill by hill.
- Hill time: your time on each hill, how much of it was contested, whether you got to the new hill first, and how fast you got back on after the enemy captured it.
- Rotation timing: when you left each hill and when you reached the next, against the hill clock and the reveal. You can judge the call with the video in front of you. Plus your deaths on the way, and whether you rotated with your team or alone.
- Spawn-flip deaths: deaths to a flip, and moments you were pushed past the hill while your team held. RankKD shows when the spawns turned and where you were. The video shows why.
- Breaks and deaths: solo breaks vs team breaks, a death heatmap by callout, your trade rate compared with your rank, outnumbered fights, re-peeks without info, and lives where your utility never left your hand.
- Receipts: every mistake in the coach's note links to the exact moment in the video, with your mouse, keyboard or controller inputs shown in the replay.
Each match gets an S-to-D grade against your own recent matches, plus your top 3 fixes in order. Every stat is compared with your rank and the rank above. More on Call of Duty coaching and VOD review.
Fair play: RankKD analyzes your match after it ends, never while you play. No overlays, no assists, no live info, no mods. How RankKD stays fair.
RankKD runs on Windows PC. It supports Modern Warfare 4 at launch, including Ranked Play from the day it goes live, and Black Ops 7 alongside it. Recording is free, and your first full breakdown is on us. See coaching plans.

Hardpoint FAQ
When should you rotate to the next hill in Hardpoint?
Early. Know where the next hill is without waiting for the 10-second reveal. Get there first so it's uncontested when you arrive. Start thinking about the next hill with about 25 seconds left, and peel off at around 20. Leaving with 30 or 40 seconds left is too early. Go a little earlier when the next hill is far away. More in when should you leave the hill.
How do you flip spawns in Hardpoint?
If more of your team is pushed past the middle of the hill than pulled back, expect the enemy to spawn behind you. To flip theirs for the next hill, use your late kills to push their spawns where you want them. Go forward off a late kill, not backwards.
Do kills count in BO7 Ranked Hardpoint?
No. Under the CDL settings Ranked uses, only hill time scores. A kill helps when it gets your team on the hill or moves the enemy spawns. See break or hold.
How long is each hill in Ranked Hardpoint?
One minute, with instant capture. P1 is live from the start, hills move in a fixed order, and the next hill is revealed 10 seconds before it goes live. A match is first to 250 points or 5 minutes.
When can you forfeit a Ranked Hardpoint match?
Once the winning team reaches 100 points. Every teammate has to vote for it. It counts as a standard loss, with no extra SR penalty and no suspension. For how SR moves on a loss, see BO7 Ranked SR explained.
Which maps are in BO7 Ranked Hardpoint?
Ranked opened in Season 02 with the CDL's launch Hardpoint maps: Blackheart, Colossus, Den, Exposure and Scar. Season 05 added four maps to Ranked Hardpoint. Frequency and Vertigo were never played in a CDL match. Blackheart and Exposure were maps the CDL had since dropped from Hardpoint. The Season 06 notes say Exposure was added back to the Ranked pool, without naming modes. The pool no longer matches the Hardpoint list the CDL played its 2026 season on: Colossus, Den, Gridlock, Hacienda, Sake and Scar. Hacienda arrived with Season 03 Reloaded. Check the in-game Ranked map list for the current rotation. Learning Hacienda? Start with the Hacienda callouts guide.
