What do CoD players use to clip today?

Medal

Medal is a free clipper that records on PC and mobile; console clips can be imported but not recorded 19. It captures any PC game, BO7 included, up to 4K at 144 fps, with 60 fps by default 19. Its auto-clipping saves a clip the moment a kill, ace, goal or Victory Royale happens in a supported game, and the official list (updated Oct 5, 2026) has no Call of Duty 1. In BO7 you clip by hand: F8, the default clip key, saves your recent gameplay at the clip length you set, or you record the whole session 1,2,34.

The free plan caps uploads at 20 minutes, 1080p and 60 fps, adds a watermark you can't remove, and shows ads 3. Medal Premium is $9.99 a month, or $7.99 a month billed annually, as of June 2026 4. It raises those limits to uploads up to 4K and 144 fps, removes the watermark and ads, and adds unlimited cloud storage and links that never expire 3,20.

NVIDIA ShadowPlay

ShadowPlay is the recorder in the NVIDIA app, which runs on NVIDIA GeForce RTX GPUs 5,32. Instant Replay keeps a rolling buffer you save with a hotkey; NVIDIA describes it as saving "the last 30 seconds of gameplay" 5. Manual recording goes up to 4K HDR at 120 fps, and app 11.0.8 added 240 FPS recording on RTX 40 and 50 Series cards 5,7. NVIDIA Highlights, its automatic "clutch kills" capture, doesn't cover current CoD: the only Call of Duty on the Highlights list is WWII (2017), and BO6, BO7 and MWIII aren't on it 6.

OBS Studio

OBS Studio is free, open-source software for recording and live streaming on Windows, Mac and Linux 8. Turn on its Replay Buffer, set the length, and a hotkey you assign saves that stretch of gameplay 9.

Steam Game Recording

Steam's built-in recorder saves gameplay continuously within a time and storage limit you set, or records on demand 10. BO7 is sold on Steam 21. Battle.net and Xbox PC copies would need the Steam Overlay to run on them as non-Steam games, which we haven't confirmed 10. Steam marks achievements and screenshots on its timeline automatically, but markers for in-game moments like kills need the game's developer to add Valve's Timeline API 11, and BO7's Steam page doesn't list Steam Timeline support, so plan on marking plays yourself 31.

Xbox Game Bar

Game Bar is built into Windows 10 and 11 33. Win+Alt+R starts and stops a recording 33, up to a max length you choose of 30 minutes to 4 hours 13. Win+Alt+G saves the last 30 seconds, or the length you picked, but only if background recording is turned on 33, and it's off by default 12.

Outplayed and other Overwolf apps

Outplayed is free with ads, claims support for 5,000+ games and auto-captures "best moments" onto a match timeline, but its site doesn't name Call of Duty among them 14. Overwolf's store does list it among its apps for Call of Duty: Warzone 36. Overwolf's docs list only match start, match end, lobby or in-game, and which title is selected for its CoD event feed, with no kill or death events, so Overwolf apps can't auto-clip individual BO7 kills from it 16. The last Call of Duty with kill and death events in Overwolf's feed is Vanguard (2021) 37.

Insights.gg

Insights Capture is a free Windows recorder that "records every match automatically", with a web VOD review tool for teams and coaches 18. Its Call of Duty page says recording starts when the lobby loads, multi-kills, killstreaks and gulag wins are saved automatically, and kills and deaths are timestamped. That page doesn't say which Call of Duty titles this covers, and an Insights guide to recording Call of Duty on PC names Black Ops 7 30,35. In our test on October 10, 2026 (Insights Capture 3.8.0, Black Ops 7), Insights Capture recorded one continuous session from the moment the game launched. It received no game events (no match start or end, and no kills), so it created no highlights or bookmarks. After we stopped that recording, it didn't start a new one for the next match. Basic is free with 5 GB; team bundles run $39 to $229 a month 17.

Where clip tools fall short for ranked CoD

A clip saves a moment, not the match

The others don't document automatic BO7 kill clips: Medal's list has no CoD 1, Highlights stops at WWII 6, BO7's Steam page doesn't list Steam Timeline support 31, and Overwolf's CoD feed has no kill events 16. With those, you either hit a hotkey after the play or record everything and scrub through it to find the moment. And an auto-clip, where you get one, is one play, not the match around it.

Where's your ranked history?

Outside the game, there's nowhere we could find to see it. We couldn't find an official web page or API that shows your BO7 ranked match history 23, tracker.gg lists no BO6 or BO7 tracker 24, and WZStats and CODMunity are meta and loadout sites that don't show your own match history or SR 25,26.

Since Season 04, a win is a base +20 SR plus a Scoreboard Bonus for finishing in the top 4, with adjustments for opponent rank and for underdog or favored teams, so where you finish on the scoreboard directly moves your SR 27. Since Season 05, the opponent rank adjustment only applies when opponents are 3 or more Rank Tiers above or below you 22, and Season 06, BO7's final ranked season, adds an extra 10 to 40 SR loss when you lose and finish 5th to 8th 28. How does RankKD handle clips and coaching?

FAQ

Does Medal auto-clip Call of Duty?

No. Medal's auto-clipping only works in its listed games, and the list updated Oct 5, 2026 has no Call of Duty. In BO7 you save clips with the hotkey (F8 by default) or record the whole session 1,2.

Is there a Medal alternative that auto-clips Call of Duty?

BO7 on PC is sold on Steam, Battle.net and Xbox PC/PC Game Pass 21. Steam records non-Steam games only when the Steam Overlay can run on them, and we haven't confirmed that for the Battle.net or Xbox PC copies 10.

Are clip recorders allowed in BO7?

Activision's policy bans unauthorized software "that can be used in connection with the game" when it changes or facilitates gameplay, including to gain an unfair advantage or manipulate stats or game data, with examples like aimbots, wallhacks, stats hacks, injectors and input-mapping software 29. It doesn't name clip recorders, overlays or stat websites, either as banned or as allowed 29.
